That title is probably terrible Latin. Too cool an opportunity to pass up, though, given the circumstances. [UPDATE: Next comic should be up on 6/22! Then we find out if Billy gets shot or not.]

    Deus ex capro. The pronoun ex takes the ablative case. You are probably thinking of the constellation Capricorn, which means “horned goat” = caper + cornu. If that is what you want, you need to decline the cornu which would be “Deus ex capricorno”. But that could be confusing because it would suggest you meant “god from the constellation”.

    Jack of Clubs: Good to know! Though in this case I’m letting the incorrect version stand since it scans better when riffing off “machina.” My linguistic version of “print the legend.”

    And hey, while we’ve got you around… we once had an idea for a pirate-themed comic with the working title of “Carpe Maria” which I was meaning to translate as “Sieze the Seas” — out of curiosity, does that work or would it be another grammatical monstrosity?

    Also also: now I’m wondering about capri pants….

    “Carpe maria” works, and it would translate exactly as you say. The noun would be “mare” which, as the object of the verb “carpe”, would take the accusative case. The accusative plural of mare is “maria”. Incidentally, the woman’s name “Maria” comes from Hebrew “miriyam” and is unrelated, as far as I know.

    Capri pants are named for the island of Capri off the coast of Italy. According to Wikipedia, the island may be named for either goats (Latin “caper”) or wild boars (Greek “kapros”). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capri#Etymology
